About the position

The Supervisory Biomedical Engineer (Chief Engineer) at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing the Healthcare Technology Management/Biomedical Engineering unit. This role involves managing a team of biomedical engineers and support specialists, ensuring compliance with medical device regulations, and providing leadership in the management of medical equipment programs. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, project management, and financial oversight within a complex healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise subordinate Biomedical Engineers and the Supervisory Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist.
  • Oversee recruitment, orientation, duty assignments, workload balancing, and performance management for the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Manage the medical equipment management program, including budgetary authority and operational spending.
  • Ensure compliance and reporting of medical device, cybersecurity, and isolation for facilities under management oversight.
  • Provide leadership to ensure high-quality customer service to clinical staff and administrative personnel.
  • Oversee project management for the purchase, planning, construction design review, installation, and in-service training of major medical technology initiatives.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering from an accredited institution, or Certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower level in the biomedical engineering field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting for Biomedical Engineer (Clinical) positions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare technology management policies and directives.
