About the position

The Supervisory Biomedical Engineer (Deputy Chief) position at the Kansas City VA Medical Center is a leadership role within the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) program. This position is responsible for overseeing the management of healthcare technology, ensuring compliance with various regulatory standards, and supporting patient care through effective engineering and managerial practices. The role involves significant interaction with clinical and administrative staff, as well as the management of resources and personnel within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall department resources including finances, space, equipment, supplies, and staffing.
  • Draft and recommend local policies and directives related to healthcare technology management.
  • Set priorities, delegate tasks, and develop effective solutions to organizational problems.
  • Support an equipment management program that meets Joint Commission, FDA, CAP, CARF, NFPA, and VA requirements.
  • Develop and implement solutions for efficient operations and manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity.
  • Conduct continuing education programs for clinical staff on medical instrumentation principles.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and professional clinical staff regarding biomedical engineering technology.
  • Lead and manage employees, team leaders, and managers, including conflict management and dispute resolution.
  • Advise on medical engineering technology, ensuring safety and compatibility of equipment.
  • Assist with capital asset and infrastructure planning for medical equipment.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering from an accredited institution, or Certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower level in the field of biomedical engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of management of department resources, including finances and staffing.
  • Ability to draft and recommend policies related to healthcare technology management.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships and conflict management.
