About the position

The Supervisory Chemist position at the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) involves overseeing the Division's quality control and safety systems, coordinating with other OSHA managers, and providing technical expertise in laboratory information management systems. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and the development of health standards related to toxic substances in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Division's quality control and safety systems including quality assurance, quality control, records management, and laboratory safety.
  • Coordinate work with other OSHA managers to plan and evaluate special studies, coordinate training, or provide assistance for national emergencies.
  • Prepare analyses of impacts on SLTC and the Agency for proposed changes in OSHA standards or programs.
  • Provide technical expertise for the operation of modern laboratory information management systems affecting traceability of instrumentation, reagents and standards, inventory, training, and document control.
  • Prioritize the development and validation of sampling and analytical methods used to monitor toxic substances in the work environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Candidates required to obtain the necessary security/investigation level.
  • Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
  • Subject to financial disclosure requirements.
  • Requires a supervisory probationary period if the requirement has not been met.
  • Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering with at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by coursework in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13 in the Federal Service.
