About the position

The Supervisory Civil/Environmental Engineer (Deputy Director) position at the Indian Health Service is a critical role responsible for overseeing various engineering projects related to water, wastewater, and solid waste management. The ideal candidate will possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license and have a proven track record of managing complex engineering projects in a government or public sector environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage water, wastewater, and solid waste engineering projects including planning, design, cost estimation, scoping, and evaluation.
  • Lead, review, and evaluate work completed by engineering staff.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Provide guidance and support to engineering teams to promote high-quality project outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including government agencies and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license issued by any U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, managing engineering projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of civil/environmental health and engineering principles.
