About the position

The Supervisory Civil/Environmental Engineer (Director of Sanitation Facilities Construction) is responsible for overseeing the planning, funding, management, and implementation of sanitation facilities construction programs in collaboration with American Indian Tribes. This role involves leading a team of engineers and technical staff to ensure effective project development and compliance with technical specifications for new and existing sanitation facilities. The position also includes budget management and ensuring the technical adequacy of engineering plans and designs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all planning, funding, management, and implementation of the Area Sanitation Facilities Construction Program.
  • Oversee district and field offices serving tribes covered by the Area.
  • Manage the employment, leadership, and development of engineers and technical support staff.
  • Ensure effective project development, planning, design, and construction activities.
  • Maintain technical adequacy of plans, designs, and specifications for sanitation facilities construction and modifications.
  • Manage the construction budget under Public Law 86-121 and supplemental funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license issued by any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, including managing water, wastewater, and solid waste engineering projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders to determine engineering program priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of civil/environmental health and engineering principles and practices.
