The Supervisory Data Scientist (AI) serves as the AI Testing and Evaluation Branch Chief within the Department of Defense, providing expert guidance on testing and evaluating AI systems. This role is crucial for ensuring that AI solutions comply with legal and ethical standards while effectively meeting operational objectives. The position involves managing the testing and evaluation processes for AI systems across the agency, conducting research on evaluation metrics, and integrating ethical principles into the AI testing framework.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in AI testing and evaluation.
  • Organize and manage the testing and evaluation of AI systems across the agency.
  • Conduct research and development of metrics and evaluation methods for AI.
  • Ensure AI systems adhere to legal, ethical, and performance standards.
  • Incorporate DoD AI ethical principles into the testing framework.
  • Coordinate the integration of AI testing during the product lifecycle.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in a related position.
  • Experience in developing frameworks for testing AI systems' algorithms and performance.
  • Ability to apply ethics in testing and evaluation of AI systems.
  • Experience in supervising IT and AI testing teams.
  • Familiarity with DoD AI ethical principles and policies.
