About the position

The Supervisory Data Scientist (AI) position at the Department of Defense involves leading the AI Testing and Evaluation Branch. The role focuses on providing expertise in testing and evaluating AI systems, ensuring compliance with Responsible AI (RAI) policies, and managing the integration of AI testing throughout the product lifecycle. The position requires a strong background in AI, data science, and IT, along with the ability to develop frameworks for evaluating AI systems and ensuring they meet legal and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the AI Testing and Evaluation Branch Chief, providing subject matter expertise in AI.
• Organize, align, direct, and manage the testing and evaluation of all AI systems across the agency.
• Conduct research and development of metrics, measurements, and evaluation methods for AI.
• Ensure AI systems are built correctly and meet desired objectives, adhering to legal and ethical standards.
• Incorporate DoD AI ethical principles into the DLA AI test and evaluation framework.
• Coordinate the integration of the DLA AI testing and evaluation program during the product lifecycle.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related field is required.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service or equivalent in the private sector.
