About the position

The Supervisory Electrical Engineer position at the Southwestern Power Administration involves managing, planning, directing, and coordinating the design, implementation, replacement, and rehabilitation of the agency's system protection and communications facilities. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of high-voltage transmission systems and overseeing associated services contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning, direction, execution, and insurance of efficient transmission system protection and communications systems.
  • Direct and coordinate the execution of programs/projects through interaction with appropriate SWPA organizations and supporting contractors.
  • Develop protection and communications systems data and project scope recommendations including descriptions, program schedules, budget estimates, and justification data.
  • Plan and direct the overall work through subordinate supervisors, team leaders, and direct reports.
  • Prepare construction budget related to power system protection & control, power system metering, communications, and SCADA.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Basic education requirement in engineering with a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 level in the Federal service.
  • Ability to operate a government vehicle and maintain Defensive Drivers certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Q level clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Experience with high-voltage transmission systems and associated services contracts.
