Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist

About the position

The Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist position at the Department of Homeland Security involves overseeing a section of staff within the Environmental & Historic Preservation Branch. The role focuses on providing technical advice and recommendations regarding compliance with various environmental laws and policies, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act. The position requires significant travel and is part of FEMA's Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee (CORE) program, which supports disaster response and recovery efforts.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and managing a section of staff within the Environmental & Historic Preservation (EHP) Branch.
• Providing policy determinations and guidance to assist in program and operational decision-making.
• Coordinating and collaborating with FEMA program staff, regional staff, and field staff on EHP compliance issues.
• Reviewing, drafting, or finalizing agreement documents, standard operating procedures, policy, guidance, resources, or tools related to EHP compliance reviews.
• Completing EHP compliance reviews for FEMA Region 7 funding programs.

Requirements

• One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-12 level in the Federal government.
• Experience implementing methods and procedures to improve organizational performance.
• Experience recommending decisions based on applicable statutes, regulations, and/or policies.
• Technical advice and recommendations regarding compliance with NEPA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and environmental Executive Orders.
