About the position

The Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist (Facility Manager) at the Department of Justice is responsible for overseeing the planning, direction, and management of maintenance, repairs, alterations, and construction projects within a correctional facility. This role requires a focus on maintaining security while ensuring the facility operates efficiently and effectively. The incumbent will manage a diverse workforce and initiate proposals for improvements, evaluating them based on operational costs and engineering principles. The position emphasizes the importance of a humane and secure environment for individuals preparing for reentry into the community.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Facility Manager responsible for all maintenance, repairs, alterations, and construction projects.
  • Manage a workforce comprising civilian and inmate workers.
  • Initiate proposals for improvements and evaluate them in terms of operational costs and manpower requirements.
  • Make cost estimates and direct the preparation of preliminary drawings and lists of material needs.
  • Make recommendations regarding the feasibility of projects and methods for execution.
  • Maintain security of the institution as a primary responsibility.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Education: Major study in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration.
  • Specialized experience managing a maintenance program for various facilities, including planning maintenance activities and developing preventive maintenance programs.
  • Experience conducting surveillance over construction and maintenance operations performed by contractors.
  • Ability to read blueprints and make corrections and changes on records for building, grounds, and utilities.
