About the position

The Supervisory Financial Specialist position at the Department of Defense (DFAS) in Columbus, Ohio, is a critical role responsible for managing and directing analytical support for the Accounts Payable organization. This position involves overseeing the evaluation of studies and data analysis of work outputs to identify weaknesses in Accounts Payable operations and internal payment/accounting policies and procedures. The specialist will monitor and evaluate financial systems support to ensure compliance with internal controls and optimal operating procedures, which includes developing standard work processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Letters of Instruction (LOI). In addition to these responsibilities, the Supervisory Financial Specialist will identify training needs for clerical and technical personnel, facilitating process modifications and workarounds in response to issues arising within an Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) environment. The role also supports organizational productivity improvements through the management of process improvement projects aimed at enhancing work products, services, pay systems, and pay processes. Furthermore, the specialist will promote agency-wide efforts related to audit readiness and strategic planning, utilizing the Operations Business Model and budget management information. The position requires planning, managing, and supervising the assigned branch or division staff, which includes administrative personnel at the GS-11 level. This supervisory role is essential for ensuring that the financial operations align with the agency's goals and compliance requirements, ultimately contributing to the effective management of financial resources within the Department of Defense.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct analytical support for the Accounts Payable organization.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12-31-1959).
  • Must have served 3 months after the last competitive appointment in the Federal service.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 level in the federal service.
  • Experience analyzing financial and accounting operations to recommend process improvements.
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating financial systems for compliance with internal controls.
  • Experience conducting reviews of financial policies and guidelines.
