About the position

The Supervisory Health Scientist (Research Integration) position at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) involves serving as a senior scientific advisor to establish a research agenda focused on health conditions linked to 9/11. The role includes consulting on health surveillance, leading funding opportunity announcements, and developing partnerships to enhance program effectiveness. This position is critical in advancing research integration objectives and requires strong leadership and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior scientific advisor in establishing a research agenda to address existing knowledge gaps related to health conditions linked to 9/11.
  • Consult on, monitor, and measure the outcomes of health surveillance and research studies.
  • Lead the design of competitive funding opportunity announcements in coordination with the NIOSH Office of Extramural Programs.
  • Identify and analyze scientific and program policy issues to develop initiatives that improve program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Advance research integration objectives through application of planning and evaluation concepts and practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with institutions and organizations that complement the agency's work.
  • Plan work for subordinates, set priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a field related to medical, health sciences, or allied sciences.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, including designing and implementing World Trade Center Health Program projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in program evaluation and effectiveness initiatives utilizing World Trade Center Health Program data.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships with external organizations.
