About the position

The Supervisory Healthcare Engineer position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves overseeing the Future Operations and Planning (FUOPS) section within Engineering Service at a VA Medical Center. This role is responsible for ensuring the design and construction of medical care environments comply with regulatory standards, while also providing technical guidance across various engineering disciplines. The position requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders to enhance healthcare delivery through effective engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert in the design of the medical care environment, including hospital building features and critical utility systems.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Leadership, medical staff, and other clinical personnel regarding the design of the environment for medical care.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements for hospital design and construction projects.
  • Provide professional and technical guidance in various engineering disciplines such as architecture, civil engineering, and environmental engineering.
  • Plan, organize, direct, evaluate, and manage processes for the Engineering Service FUOPS/Planning Section.
  • Prepare correspondence, technical reports, estimates, and schedules for future project assignments.
  • Consult with contractor personnel to resolve complex problems encountered during construction.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12) in healthcare engineering or related fields.

  • Experience in managing healthcare facility construction projects.
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery processes and systems.
  • Ability to draft local policies related to healthcare engineering management.
