About the position

The Supervisory Historian position at the U.S. National Park Service involves leading initiatives related to the Underground Railroad, including strategic planning, budget management, and partnership development. The role requires supervising a team, conducting professional reviews, and coordinating educational efforts with various stakeholders to promote and preserve historical sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans for the Network to Freedom, including developing and tracking budgets and creating annual work plans.
• Provide technical direction on complex initiatives to identify, document, preserve, interpret and promote Underground Railroad trails and properties.
• Conduct professional reviews and assessment of research and documentation prepared by others related to Underground Railroad properties.
• Coordinate planning, research, outreach, and educational efforts with a variety of NPS and non-NPS partners.
• Build new partnerships with non-profits, state and local governments, and other Federal agencies through formal cooperative agreements.
• Supervise four to eight subordinate staff.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national.
• Possess a Bachelor's or higher degree in history or a related field with at least 18 semester hours in history, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in history.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, leading American history research projects and developing educational programming.
