About the position

The Supervisory Human Resources Specialist (Classification/Recruitment and Placement) position at the Department of Commerce is responsible for leading the Employment and Classification Section within the National Processing Center. This role involves developing and evaluating long-range employment and classification programs, strategic workforce planning, and providing guidance on recruitment and placement processes. The specialist will also counsel employees and supervisors on employment-related issues and ensure effective management of the workforce during major census periods.

Responsibilities

• Develop, administer, and evaluate long-range employment and classification programs.
• Integrate and coordinate placement and position functions with other HR activities.
• Conduct strategic planning for personnel needs to support the National Processing Center's mission.
• Analyze labor market supply and demand to identify workforce issues.
• Counsel employees and supervisors on employment-related misunderstandings and problems.
• Advise on classification objectives across various program areas.
• Adapt guidelines and practices to address unique operational challenges.

Requirements

• Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service.
• Experience in administering recruitment and placement goals and objectives.
• Ability to serve as a liaison between management and employees/applicants regarding HR policies.
• Experience in consulting with senior management on strategic hiring goals.
