About the position

The position is located within the Human Resource Management Division of the Bureau of Prisons, focusing on staffing programs and employee relations. The role involves providing guidance to HR specialists, adjudicating staffing issues, and reviewing qualification standards that impact prison positions. The aim is to ensure effective staffing and personnel management within the Bureau of Prisons, contributing to a secure and humane environment for individuals reentering communities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and administer staffing programs for the Bureau of Prisons.
  • Provide guidance to HR Specialists in field institutions and other key management officials.
  • Adjudicate staffing issues that are precedent-setting or involve national policy.
  • Review tentative OPM qualification standards and provide comments on related proposed issuances.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
  • Experience in staffing, recruitment, and merit promotion procedures.
  • Knowledge of Title 5, United States Code, and related personnel management regulations.
  • Experience in developing policy and providing expert advice in correctional specialty.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a correctional facility.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Management Manual.
