About the position

The Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Section Chief) at the Department of Justice is responsible for overseeing and managing IT-related duties within the Bureau of Prisons. This role requires a technical expert in personal computer hardware, local area networks, and telecommunications, ensuring the effective implementation and maintenance of IT systems. The position involves staff training, operational reviews, and serving as a resource for information resource management techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert in personal computer hardware, local area networks, and telecommunications.
  • Perform major diagnostics and troubleshooting on personal computers and related equipment.
  • Oversee regional IT-related duties, including guidance and staff training on information systems and security.
  • Coordinate institution staff assistance and ensure operational reviews are conducted timely.
  • Implement, maintain, and support the Bureau of Prisons' video teleconferencing system.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have IT-related experience demonstrating competencies in attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving.
  • Specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent in federal service is required.

  • Experience in designing and implementing complex security and system software for personal computers on a wide area network.
