The Supervisory IT Program Manager (Chief, National Network Communications) position at the Department of Justice is a critical role responsible for overseeing the Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) wide-area network (WAN) known as BOPNet, as well as the SENTRY system and communications with other external Department of Justice (DOJ) systems. This position is located in Washington, DC, and is classified under the GS-15 pay scale, with a salary range of $163,964 to $191,900 per year. The role is permanent and full-time, with a promotion potential of GS-15. The incumbent will manage the day-to-day operations of telecommunications, computer operations, and production control functions, ensuring the network's performance and reliability. The IT Program Manager will be responsible for developing and updating standards for the network infrastructure, as well as establishing proper procedures for its maintenance. This includes planning, designing, acquiring, coordinating, and installing IT equipment in the BOP's Network Control Center. The role also involves preparing network designs and surveys for new institutions and maintaining documentation for existing institutions. The position requires a strong focus on customer service, problem-solving, and effective communication, as the incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders to assess needs and resolve issues. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and meet specific qualification requirements, including specialized IT experience and competencies in attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving. The position is not eligible for relocation expenses, and while telework is permitted in accordance with agency policy, the job is not remote. Travel may be required for training and work-related issues, estimated at 25% or less. The incumbent will also be subject to a one-year probationary period upon initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position.
