About the position

The Supervisory IT Specialist position at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the Information Resources Management Branch (IRMB). This role involves providing strategic leadership in IT, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing the use of IT resources across the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage IT Projects by conducting IT strategic planning and project management activities.
  • Serve as a recognized technical authority for new and advanced computer systems software and cyber security.
  • Oversee the migration of systems to production environment and monitor for stability, accuracy, and performance.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Perform feasibility studies including original research to develop information systems that meet user requirements.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice and develop solutions to solve issues associated with IC and agency-wide IT problems.
  • Direct, coordinate, and approve detailed planning, design, development, programming, testing, documentation, training, and implementation of IT systems through the use of outside vendors.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Applicants must meet all qualifications requirements within thirty (30) calendar days of the closing date.
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service, typically gained in the IT field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in advising leadership on the strategic direction and management of significant enterprise-wide IT resources and investments.
  • Experience in developing or implementing IT strategic planning for an organization.
