About the position
The Supervisory IT Specialist position at the National Weather Service (NWS) involves managing and overseeing IT systems operations and maintenance within the Surface and Upper Air Division (SUAD). The role requires serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in IT, providing technical guidance, and supervising the IT Support Section staff. This position is critical for supporting the mission of the NWS and ensuring effective IT service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the operations and maintenance of assigned IT systems in support of the SUAD mission.
- Serve as the IT Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing expert technical advice and guidance to management and technical specialists.
- Exercise supervision and managerial responsibilities for the work of the IT Support Section staff.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service.
- Experience in developing, operating, and maintaining IT systems and resolving related issues.
- Experience in project management functions such as developing plans and schedules, estimating resource requirements, and monitoring activities.

- Strong oral communication skills for effective presentations and interactions with clients.
