About the position

The Supervisory IT Specialist position at the Department of Transportation involves managing a technical staff responsible for database administration services for various government agencies, including the FAA. The role includes overseeing IT Service Management support, managing contracts, and ensuring compliance with ITIL standards. The selected candidate will be responsible for planning, communicating organizational objectives, and developing employee capabilities while contributing to budget planning and customer relations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a technical staff of IT Specialists responsible for database administration services.
  • Oversee IT Service Management support in Change, Configuration, Release, Availability, and Contingency Management disciplines.
  • Work with the Business Enterprise Team to gather requirements for new customers and renewals.
  • Plan and communicate the organization's vision and objectives to the team.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance, coaching and developing employee capabilities.
  • Approve leave and recommend corrective/disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Manage contracts for FAA Mainframe systems and develop new business for the ESC.
  • Prepare proposals and communicate customer visions and directions.
  • Implement and maintain ITIL standards (ISO 20000) within the section.
  • Contribute to budget planning and track financial information for the section.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I (FG/GS-13) level.
  • Experience planning and communicating organizational objectives.
  • Experience overseeing and managing system administration and database administration services.
  • Experience creating, negotiating, and administering customer agreements.
  • Experience operating under ISO 20000, ISO 9000:2001, and ITIL principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • IT certifications related to database administration or IT management.
  • Experience with vulnerability scans and security assessments.
