About the position

The Supervisory IT Specialist position at the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) involves providing strategic leadership in IT, managing IT projects, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The role serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) within the Information Resources Management Branch, focusing on effective utilization of IT resources and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage IT projects by conducting strategic planning and project management activities.
  • Serve as a recognized technical authority for new and advanced computer systems software and cybersecurity.
  • Oversee the migration of systems to production environments and monitor for stability, accuracy, and performance.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Perform feasibility studies and original research to develop information systems that meet user requirements.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice, developing solutions to solve issues related to IT problems.
  • Direct, coordinate, and approve detailed planning, design, development, programming, testing, documentation, training, and implementation of IT systems.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic direction and management of significant enterprise-wide IT resources.
  • Experience in developing or implementing IT strategic planning for an organization.
  • Ability to conduct appropriate analyses for new IT technologies and investments.
  • Experience in leading IT implementation efforts with appropriate plans and strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of contract management principles.
  • Knowledge of Information System Security and Security Operations.
  • Skill in leading IT Strategy development and implementation.
