About the position

The Supervisory Librarian for the Metadata Management and Digital Content Unit at the Library of Congress is responsible for overseeing a team of professionals engaged in the cataloging and management of moving image collections. This role involves administrative and technical supervision, project leadership, and the development of training programs to enhance the skills of staff members. The incumbent will ensure compliance with national and international cataloging standards while fostering a collaborative work environment that promotes continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of employees performing professional and technical work up to the GS-13 level.
  • Provide administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.
  • Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff members and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Resolve informal complaints and grievances, and develop work improvement plans.
  • Serve as an expert in the organization, development, and implementation of projects related to moving image collections.
  • Coordinate special projects of importance to the Library of Congress and the field of moving image archiving.
  • Develop technical standards or protocols applicable to metadata management and digital content.
  • Organize and develop training projects related to bibliographic access and cataloging tools for moving image collections.
  • Initiate and maintain professional relationships with archivists and librarians to share resources and coordinate workflow.
  • Participate in professional organizations and collaborate on projects related to moving image.

Requirements

  • Ability to supervise and lead a diverse workforce.
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and techniques of library science.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems and information technologies for managing moving image materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
