The Supervisory Librarian position at Mountain Home AFB, ID, is a full-time role responsible for overseeing library operations, including administration, management, technical, and public services. The incumbent will manage collection development, perform cataloging, and ensure effective library services while leading a team of library staff. This role also involves developing programs, managing budgets, and establishing partnerships with various organizations to enhance library services.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee library or information center functions.
  • Accountable for the full scope of library operations including administration, management, technical, and public services.
  • Responsible for collection management including acquisition, organization, maintenance, preservation, and removal of materials.
  • Perform original or modified descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, and classification of information resources.
  • Search reference materials, including online sources and the Internet, to locate unique reference information in response to customer requests.
  • Function as a liaison with user groups and establish partnerships with local, state, and regional organizations.
  • Attend professional meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars to support library services.
  • Plan and deliver specialized programs, services, and/or exhibits.
  • Complete cost estimates prior to ordering/purchasing library materials.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of automated services and conduct studies to improve system operation.
  • Conduct tours and orientations for library users.
  • Prepare how-to instructions for various services provided by the library.
  • Assist customers with conducting literature searches and catalog use.
  • Write operating procedures for automated library operations based on established policies.
  • Respond to customer complaints and take necessary action.
  • Develop marketing and publicity ideas to promote library programs, including outreach and special events.
  • Track marketing program costs and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Develop budgets while establishing short and long-range library plans.
  • Establish internal procurement and quality processes for library acquisitions.
  • Work with procurement office to develop purchase agreements and statements of work for library services.
  • Resolve problems with procurement activity, finance and accounting office, or vendors.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities such as management of staff, recruitment, and training of personnel.
  • Assign work based on priorities and deadlines, considering the difficulty and requirements of assignments and the capabilities of employees.
  • Review work of subordinates for completion and adherence to established policies.
  • Provide direction and continuous feedback on strengths and weaknesses, holding employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments.
  • Deliver and advocate recognition for employee performance and contributions.

Requirements

  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education OR a Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent graduate degree.
  • Ability to manage or direct a library or library system, including budget responsibility and personnel management.
  • Experience in applying policies and procedures that direct the execution and development of library programs.
  • Skill in cataloging and using library and online databases for research.
  • Knowledge of marketing and publicity techniques to promote library programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team of employees.
