About the position

You will serve as a Supervisory Materials Engineer within the Materials Engineering Department, located within MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul)-Engineering at the Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. In this role, you will provide support to the Materials Engineering Department Director in the leadership/direction and management of the Materials Engineering organization. You will develop and/or maintain collaborative working relationships with the Fleet Support Teams (FSTs), Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), MRO Production Program Managers for FRCSW and with their counterparts at other FRC- NAVAIR activities. Additionally, you will establish policies and procedures governing selection, manufacturing, novel repair procedures, new material and process qualification, and utilization of these materials and processes. You will be guiding the development, characterization, evaluation, and implementation of these materials and processes for use on Naval Aviation Enterprise aircraft and weapon systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Materials Engineering Department Director in leadership and management.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with Fleet Support Teams and Integrated Product Teams.
  • Establish policies and procedures for selection, manufacturing, and repair procedures.
  • Guide the development and implementation of materials and processes for Naval Aviation Enterprise.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements for current federal employees.
  • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must have specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in materials engineering specialty areas such as metals & ceramics, non-destructive inspection, and corrosion & wear.
  • Ability to apply creative thinking and judgment to solve complex technical problems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
