About the position

The Supervisory Medical Technologist position at the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System involves overseeing laboratory operations during the night shift. This role is crucial for ensuring high-quality laboratory services for veterans, requiring advanced knowledge in medical technology and the ability to manage complex testing procedures. The position includes responsibilities such as staff supervision, quality management, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule ongoing work in the laboratory.
  • Adjust staffing levels and work procedures as necessary.
  • Collaborate in the laboratory scheduling process.
  • Supervise day-to-day performance of complex tests.
  • Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations for quality assurance.
  • Initiate corrective actions when test performance deviates from specifications.
  • Conduct orientation, training, and competency assessments for staff.
  • Implement and monitor quality management activities.
  • Perform full supervisory duties including work assignments and evaluations.
  • Manage section technical procedures and maintain inventory programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) from recognized boards.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a medical technology clinical practice program accredited by recognized agencies.
  • Two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience or five years of clinical laboratory experience in relevant fields.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in federal healthcare regulations and quality management procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize laboratory operations effectively.
