About the position

The Supervisory Mental Health Specialist (Behavioral Health Director) will lead the Behavioral Health Department at the Fort Thompson Indian Health Center, providing comprehensive mental health services to various age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and elderly patients. The role involves supervising staff, developing training plans, and ensuring the delivery of quality mental health care, while also serving as a patient advocate and liaison among patients, families, and medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and on-the-job training for Behavioral Health staff.
  • Assist in the career development of staff by developing appropriate educational training plans.
  • Respond to consults/referrals regarding patients' medical social services/discharge planning needs within 24 hours.
  • Provide collaborative services through case management for patients requiring multiple hospitalizations or specialized care.
  • Work directly with patients to address their relationships and the effects of their illness, promoting wellness and a holistic approach to medicine.
  • Perform mental status evaluations on all new patients as appropriate.
  • Complete psychosocial assessments for walk-in and referred patients in a timely manner and formulate treatment plans.

Requirements

  • Degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level, including administrative supervision for behavioral health staff and coordination of a comprehensive mental health program.
  • Current unrestricted License as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health (LPC-MH) or equivalent licensure.
