The Supervisory Mine Safety and Health Specialist (Electrical) position at the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) in Lakewood, CO, is responsible for overseeing the district's electrical program. This role involves supervising specialists and support staff, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and promoting safe practices in mining operations. The specialist will also conduct inspections, provide training, and advise on electrical systems and safety protocols within the mining industry.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the district's electrical program and supervise specialists and support staff.
  • Provide advice, counsel, and instruction on technical and administrative matters.
  • Coach and mentor employees, assisting in their performance and career development.
  • Distribute work assignments to ensure balanced workloads and timely completion of tasks.
  • Evaluate employee performance and ensure compliance with work rules and regulations.
  • Promote equal employment opportunities and fair employment practices.
  • Identify and correct job safety and health hazards, instructing employees on safety requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate electrical program activities within the district.
  • Conduct on-site studies of electrical apparatus and circuits to raise safety awareness.
  • Review electrical equipment for compliance with standards and investigate conditions in mines.
  • Prepare written reports of inspections and investigations, issuing citations for violations.
  • Troubleshoot and advise on electrical problems in the mining industry.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass a medical exam and maintain physical requirements.
  • Must undergo a background investigation and financial disclosure requirements.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level in the Federal Service.

  • Experience in conducting formal classroom training on electrical matters related to mining.
  • Knowledge of mine safety and health standards and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate safety aspects of mining operations.
