About the position

The Supervisory Nurse (Admin) at the Defense Health Agency is responsible for overseeing the Patient Safety and Risk Management Service at a regional Medical Center. This role involves implementing and coordinating the hospital's Risk Management program, supervising staff, conducting investigations into risk management issues, and ensuring compliance with established standards and regulations. The position requires advanced clinical nursing skills and administrative expertise to enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Patient Safety Manager and Claims Coordinator/Data Management Specialist, assigning work and providing technical oversight.
  • Independently reviews actions related to risk management issues and conducts investigations into serious adverse events.
  • Collaborates with the Physician Chairperson of the Risk Management Committee to evaluate the effectiveness of the Risk Management program.
  • Manages the Risk Management database, analyzing data and reporting trends to relevant committees.
  • Provides guidance and support to hospital departments in identifying and investigating risk management problems.

Requirements

  • Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in at least one US state or province/territory of the United States.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in risk management and patient safety programs.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and MEDCOM standards.
