About the position

The Occupational Therapy Section Chief at the Atlanta VA Medical Center is an independent healthcare professional responsible for supervising clinical staff and interns. This role involves evaluating patients and establishing treatment plans that encompass a wide range of complex treatment procedures and modalities. The position requires strong leadership skills to ensure effective service delivery and compliance with healthcare standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Occupational Therapy evaluations and treatments for a variety of VAMC patients, especially in areas with inadequate staffing.
  • Serve as a liaison to medical center staff and university-affiliated staff regarding available Occupational Therapy programs and services.
  • Perform bi-annual peer reviews and analyze data for the Occupational Therapy department.
  • Oversee the QA program for Occupational Therapy in Pike, Cobb, Trinka Davis/CLC areas, ensuring compliance with JCAHO requirements.
  • Monitor departmental workload to meet patient and staff needs effectively.
  • Conduct monthly 'We Care' interviews with patients and staff to assess VA effectiveness.
  • Participate in the advancement of knowledge and techniques related to Occupational Therapy.
  • Perform supervisory duties including interviewing candidates, recommending appointments, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Ensure timely handling of consults based on patient acuity.
  • Recommend equipment and budgetary needs for the OT sections of Trinka Davis, Pike, and Cobb locations.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures for Occupational Therapy.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and two years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, or a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted state license to practice Occupational Therapy.
  • Ability to balance multiple responsibilities, set priorities, delegate tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Skill in conflict resolution and dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.

Nice-to-haves
