About the position

The Supervisory Operations Research Analyst position at the Department of the Treasury involves leading a team within the Research, Applied Analytics and Statistics Division. This role is critical in planning and executing work assignments, setting priorities, and ensuring that the team meets its objectives effectively. As a Front Line Manager, you will be responsible for evaluating the performance of your subordinates, providing guidance, and making recommendations for promotions or disciplinary actions as necessary. You will also play a key role in interviewing candidates for positions within your unit and addressing employee grievances, ensuring a harmonious work environment. In addition to managing day-to-day operations, you will identify training and development needs for your team members, facilitating their professional growth. Your leadership will be essential in initiating improvements in production and work processes, thereby enhancing the quality of work produced by your team. This position requires a strong foundation in operations research, mathematics, and statistics, as well as the ability to apply these skills in a managerial context. You will be expected to leverage your technical expertise to oversee the planning, development, and implementation of various programs, ensuring they align with the agency's objectives. The role also emphasizes the importance of effective communication, both within the team and with external stakeholders. You will need to apply your communicative techniques to interact diplomatically with customers and other departments, ensuring that the objectives of the Research, Applied Analytics and Statistics Division are met. Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for performance recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production, work processes, and quality of work.

Requirements

  • A degree in operations research or at least 24 semester hours in operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, or related fields, including 3 semester hours in calculus.
  • One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service, demonstrating managerial skills and technical competence.
  • Experience in applying management techniques and principles for program objectives with technical and administrative oversight.
  • Experience in applying regulations and principles to oversee planning and implementation of technical programs.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of specific subject areas related to operations research.
  • Experience in project/program management or as a technical advisor.
  • Familiarity with labor relations concepts.
