About the position

The Supervisory Operations Research Analyst position at the Department of the Treasury involves leading a team within the Research, Applied Analytics, and Statistics Division. This role is critical in planning and executing work assignments, setting priorities, and ensuring the effective completion of projects. As a Front Line Manager, you will be responsible for evaluating the performance of your subordinates, providing guidance, and facilitating their professional development. You will also play a key role in the hiring process, interviewing candidates, and making recommendations for appointments and promotions. Additionally, you will address employee grievances and implement disciplinary measures when necessary. Your leadership will be essential in identifying areas for improvement in production and work processes, thereby enhancing the quality of work produced by your team. In this position, you will be expected to apply your expertise in operations research and analytics to support the agency's objectives. You will utilize your knowledge of management techniques and principles to oversee the planning, development, and implementation of various programs. The role requires strong communication skills to interact effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that the team's work aligns with the agency's goals. You will also be involved in strategic decision-making processes, contributing to the overall success of the division. Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for performance recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production and work processes to enhance quality.

Requirements

  • A degree in operations research or at least 24 semester hours in operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, or related fields, including 3 hours in calculus.
  • One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service, demonstrating managerial skills and technical competence.
  • Experience in applying management techniques and principles for program objectives with oversight responsibilities.
  • Experience in applying regulations and principles to oversee technical aspects of programs.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of specific subject areas related to operations research.
  • Experience in project/program management or as a technical advisor.
