About the position

CGS is seeking a Supervisory Paralegal to join our team supporting a wide-ranging technical support initiative for a large Federal agency. This full-time position is designed for mid-level professionals who are motivated, highly skilled, and creative, and who are excited to contribute to government innovation. The Supervisory Paralegal will play a crucial role in directing and supervising the work of paralegals and other support staff, particularly on major paralegal support efforts such as large legal research projects or significant in-courtroom support. The successful candidate will monitor work progress, ensure compliance with contract and attorney requirements, and deliver high-quality work on time. In this role, the Supervisory Paralegal will be responsible for troubleshooting and performing quality control spot-checks, as well as formulating administrative and technical procedures to ensure efficient workflow. The position requires significant interaction with various stakeholders, including the Project Supervisor or Project Manager, government case managers, trial attorneys, client agency staff, and opposing counsel. The Supervisory Paralegal will also perform complex legal and factual research, design and develop systems for tracking and managing case files, and assist trial staff in coordinating with expert witnesses and litigation consultants. Candidates must possess at least three years of litigation paralegal experience, including trial experience, and at least one year of experience in automated litigation support, such as Relativity or similar tools. Supervisory experience is essential, along with strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and attorneys. A sound working knowledge of the federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources is required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Familiarity with various computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging, is also necessary. The ability to consistently deliver high-quality work under pressure is critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise the work of paralegals and other support staff on major paralegal support efforts.
  • Monitor work progress and report on status.
  • Ensure that paralegal and support staff work meets contract and attorney requirements and is delivered on time.
  • Troubleshoot and perform quality control spot-checks.
  • Formulate administrative and technical procedures for efficient workflow.
  • Perform complex legal and factual research.
  • Design and develop systems for tracking and managing case files and exhibits.
  • Assist trial staff in coordinating with expert witnesses and litigation consultants.
  • Arrange for access to appropriate client libraries and legal research facilities.
  • Coordinate with other Contractor support components to accomplish work.

Requirements

  • At least three years of litigation paralegal experience, including trial experience.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support including Relativity or similar tools.
  • Prior trial support experience is required.
  • Supervisory experience with proven capabilities and communication skills to interact with clients and attorneys.
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Hands-on familiarity with various computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging.
  • Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Required Paralegal certificate.
