About the position

This position is located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park within the Interpretation & Education Division. The role involves developing, planning, administering, and evaluating the park's interpretation, public information, and education programs. The incumbent will serve as a key advisor to the park's management team and will be responsible for overseeing a complex budget and supervising multiple staff members. The position requires collaboration with various partners and stakeholders to enhance visitor experiences and educational outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, administer, evaluate and lead all aspects of the park's interpretation, public information and education programs.
  • Serve as the primary technical and policy advisor to the park's management team.
  • Act as a key member of the park management team in developing park-wide policy and administrative procedures.
  • Liaise between the park and cooperating associations, educational institutions, and other partners.
  • Represent the park at partner group meetings and guide fundraising efforts.
  • Guide and develop long and short-range planning for the division, establishing policies and standards.
  • Develop innovative visitor interpretive and educational programs for over 2 million visitors annually.
  • Provide oversight of a complex multi-million dollar budget.
  • Directly supervise four GS-11 branch chiefs, a GS-9 visual information specialist, and a GS-7 budget technician.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
