About the position

Serve as Shift Supervisory Police Officer at the Garrison, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Supervising assigned shift and performing law enforcement duties in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Responsible for the operational status of all police officers assigned to the shift who are involved in law enforcement, traffic control, conservation law enforcement, investigations, training, tactical operations, and patrol activities.
  • Exercise search and apprehension authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses and other persons involved, and determines whether facts warrant apprehension or lesser action.
  • Performing law enforcement duties in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction. Ensuring that assigned personnel properly execute law enforcement duties for the installation.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance, and enforcement of a full range of Federal, State, local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work, and the supervision of others engaged in such duties.
  • Provide sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered, witness' statements in criminal and traffic courts.
  • Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. Operates motor vehicle which may involve high speed pursuit of suspects.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position has been designated 'Mission Essential'.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions.
  • Must be able to pass an annual physical agility test to standards published in AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force.
  • Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.

  • Graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
