About the position

Responsibilities

  • Reviews article, book manuscripts, graphic presentation, videos, photograms, web-based communication for security.
  • Oversees and reviews the preparation and publication of the internal headquarters journal, including magazine articles, reporting on technical progress, and agency and employees' achievements.
  • Serves as approval authority for various written materials produced by members of the command.
  • Writes a variety of articles, news releases and speeches to convey information and clarify organization's operations for varying external and internal audiences via publication in magazines, newsletters, websites, etc.
  • Manages and performs oversight of section personnel in the areas of community relations, media relations, command information, plans and social media for the Command and ensures effective, synchronized communications with priorities.
  • Coordinates and supervises staff production priorities based upon planned communication efforts in graphic design, multi-media productions and web-based presences within established deadlines.
  • Develops communication plan supporting overall campaign effort including fact sheets, news releases, feature articles, media relations, graphic design and other materials for traditional use and public distribution.
  • Supervises performance of personnel on a daily basis, manages staff annual performance and developmental goals over a yearly and long-term perspective.
  • Conducts the public affairs program for the Major Army Command, with responsibility for planning, developing, and communicating the organization's programs, policies, and activities to the internal and external populations.
  • Formulates budgetary requirements for near-and short-term applications for the Public Affairs Program.
  • Responsible for office budget preparation and execution to support Deputy Director Public Affairs operations and activities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter.
  • Requires travel of military and commercial aircraft.
  • Incumbent may be required to work regular and emergency overtime.
  • A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in overseeing, coordinating and directing media relations, command information, social media and community relations special projects.
  • Experience in writing plans and guidance to establish guidelines and policies for use within the organization or by subordinate public affairs offices.
  • Experience in presenting oral and or written information to internal and external audiences.
  • Experience in responding to requests for guidance in public affairs matters from members of the command and from the field.
