About the position

The Supervisory Social Worker at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is responsible for overseeing the Gerirics and Extended Care (GEC)/Non-Institutional Care (NIC) programs within Social Work Service. This role involves planning, implementing policies, and supervising staff to ensure high-quality care for veterans through various programs such as Community Nursing Home, Community Living Center, and Hospice and Palliative Care. The position requires strong leadership, clinical knowledge, and the ability to maintain effective relationships with clients and community agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the GS-13 Supervisor in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures for the GEC/NIC programs.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to staff, including performance evaluations and disciplinary reviews.
  • Ensure staff adherence to VHA directives and regulatory standards.
  • Orient and coach new social workers and supervise social work graduate students.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews to ensure program objectives are met and standards are adhered to.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and community agencies.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse populations, both orally and in writing.
  • Utilize computer software for document drafting and data management.
  • Implement psychosocial treatment modalities with individuals, families, and groups.
  • Provide consultation services regarding psychosocial needs and their impact on healthcare.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school.
  • Licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to independently organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of supervisory duties and clinical social work services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for federal contracts.
  • Experience working with geriatric populations.
  • Experience in institutional and long-term care settings.
