About the position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of the Women Veterans Program and works closely with the Women Veteran Medical Director to form the foundation of the women's health team at the facility level.
  • Serves as Chair of the Women Veterans health Committee at the facility level.
  • Provides expertise and guidance specific to women Veterans for facility-wide strategic goals and objectives.
  • Executes comprehensive planning for women's health that improves the overall quality of care provided to women Veterans and achieves program goals and outcomes.
  • Serves as an advocate for women by working closely with the Veteran Experience Office (Patient Advocate Office) to facilitate problem resolution and women Veteran satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with facility leadership on culture transformation to create a safe, secure, and respectful environment for women Veterans to receive care.
  • Collaborates with facility leadership to ensure local implementation of national policy related to women Veterans.
  • Reviews and provides input on all facility policies as they are created or revised to support the needs of women Veterans.
  • Collaborates with Fiscal and facility leadership to advocate for resources to support programs to meet the needs of women Veterans.
  • Collaborates with the Education Department and/or Designated Learning Officer to identify and address training needs for facility staff specific to women Veterans.
  • Promotes national and local educational programs for women's health providers and other staff.
  • Participates in the review of the physical environment, including identifying deficiencies and opportunities for improvement and works with facility leadership, facility planner, and other staff to ensure that new construction and renovations are appropriate to meet the needs of women Veterans.
  • Ensures the health, relationship and safety screenings are completed routinely. Refers for admission to mental health inpatient programs as needed.
  • Accesses multiple resource directories in addition to previously developed resources to meet the demands of a crisis.
  • Provides a full range of psychological and social determinant of health assessment services (excluding neuropsychological) to clarify the needs of the Veterans and to facilitate development of a holistic treatment plan.
  • Completes clinical reminders that are within scope of practice for social workers.
  • Educates the Veteran and/or caregiver of the available services and assists them with appropriate referrals based on the Veteran's preference or that of the surrogate decision-maker related to mental health issues or the team's evaluation.
  • Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • Consults with and serves as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for and development of psychological services.
  • Identifies patient problems requiring consultation with other multidisciplinary medical center staff and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Completes all clinical charting and documentation required by the health care system in a timely manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a healthcare setting.
  • Certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university.
  • Experience in women's health or related fields.
