About the position

The Supervisory Social Worker position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is primarily an administrative role that involves providing support to the Chief of Social Work. This position is responsible for overseeing the Housing and Urban Development / VA Supportive Housing (HUD/VASH) staff at the main facility and VA Community Clinics. The role includes direct supervision of staff, delegation of administrative responsibilities, fiscal control, and ensuring clinical performance measures are met. As a VHA priority program, the Supervisory Social Worker will work closely with community-based Grant & Per Diem programs, Contract Emergency Housing, Veterans Justice Outreach, Community Employment, and Coordinated Entry. The main duties include serving as a liaison to other services within the organization, managing the administrative and clinical aspects of the HUD/VASH Program, and providing direct clinical services to a small caseload. The Supervisory Social Worker will assist the Chief in developing and monitoring standards of clinical practice, including care guidelines and manuals. They will also be responsible for developing standard operating procedures for clinical care interventions and ensuring compliance with these procedures. Additionally, the role involves monitoring the efficiency and quality of the HUD/VASH program, developing quality indicators, and reviewing workload data. The Supervisory Social Worker will assist in planning and implementing policies and procedures, developing goals and objectives, and overseeing the HUD/VASH staff. They will also perform administrative and personnel management functions related to the staff they supervise, including developing work improvement plans and recommending personnel actions as necessary. This position may also involve providing technical assistance to various agencies and universities, as well as performing other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the practice of all HUD/VASH staff at the main facility and VA Community Clinics.

  • Monitor the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of HUD/VASH program services.
  • Develop and monitor quality indicators and program review mechanisms.
  • Review staffing patterns and work assignments to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  • Assist in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative and personnel management functions for supervised staff.
  • Develop work improvement plans and recommend personnel actions as necessary.
  • Provide technical assistance to local and private agencies and universities.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited school.
  • Licensed or certified to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in social work.
  • Demonstrated advanced practice skills in a specialty area or administration.
  • Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Skill in supervisory duties including clinical supervision and quality improvement.
  • Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.
  • Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and develop solutions.
  • Ability to provide staff training and development.

Nice-to-haves
