About the position

The Supervisory Tax Analyst position involves managing a team within the Taxpayer Services Division of the IRS. The role focuses on planning, assigning, and evaluating work, as well as providing guidance and support to employees. This temporary position may last up to one year, with the possibility of extension for up to three years.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for performance recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer group grievances as necessary.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary development and training.
  • Initiate ways to improve production, work processes, and the quality of work.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level within the payband or GS grade.
  • Demonstrated management/leadership experience applying management techniques and principles.
  • Experience managing resources, providing support to managers, and mentoring team members.
  • Experience applying regulations and official guidance relevant to the position.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project/program management.
  • Knowledge of business process improvement techniques.
  • Familiarity with compliance data analysis.
