About the position

The Front Line Manager position within the Small Business Self-Employed Division at the IRS involves overseeing a team, planning work schedules, evaluating performance, and ensuring the effective execution of tasks. This role requires strong managerial skills and the ability to mentor and develop employees while maintaining high standards of work quality and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production, work processes, and quality of work.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the next lower level within the payband or GS grade that demonstrates required managerial skills and technical competence.
  • Experience applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts for program objectives with technical and administrative oversight.
  • Experience managing resources, providing support to managers, mentoring team members, and overseeing peers or others.
  • Experience applying regulations and principles to oversee planning, development, and implementation of technical programs.
  • Experience using communicative techniques to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project/program management or as a team lead.
  • Knowledge of IRS regulations and procedures.
