The Supervisory Tax Examining Technician (First Read/Limited Scope Manager) position at the Department of the Treasury involves overseeing a team responsible for tax examination processes. The role requires effective management of work assignments, performance evaluations, and employee development while ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing work quality. This position is crucial for maintaining operational efficiency within the Small Business Self Employed (SBSE) division of the IRS.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for performance recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer group grievances as necessary.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production, work processes, and quality of work.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service, demonstrating required managerial skills and technical competence.
  • Experience applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts for program objectives with technical and administrative oversight.
  • Experience managing resources, providing support to managers, mentoring team members, and overseeing peers or others.
  • Experience applying regulations and official guidance to oversee planning and development of technical programs.
  • Experience using communication techniques to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a project/program management role.
  • Familiarity with IRS policies and procedures.
