About the position

The Front Line Manager position within the Taxpayer Services Division at the IRS involves overseeing and managing a team to ensure effective service delivery. This role includes planning work, evaluating performance, and providing guidance to employees while also addressing administrative matters and fostering a productive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
• Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
• Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for recognition or disciplinary action.
• Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
• Interview candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
• Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
• Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
• Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
• Initiate improvements in production, work processes, and quality of work.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service.
• Management/leadership experience applying management techniques and principles for program objectives.
• Experience managing resources and providing support to managers and team members.
• Experience applying regulations and principles to oversee planning and implementation of technical programs.
• Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in project/program management or as a team lead.
• Technical advisory experience in a relevant field.
