About the position

The Front Line Manager position within the Taxpayer Services Division at the IRS involves overseeing and managing a team to ensure effective service delivery. This role includes planning, assigning work, evaluating performance, and providing guidance to employees. The manager will also be responsible for resolving employee complaints and identifying training needs to enhance team performance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production, work processes, and quality of work.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service.
  • Demonstrated management/leadership experience applying management techniques and principles for program objectives.
  • Experience managing resources and providing support to managers and mentoring team members.
  • Experience applying regulations and principles to oversee planning and implementation of technical programs.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project/program management or as a team lead.
  • Knowledge of IRS procedures and regulations.
