About the position

The Supervisory Tax Examining Technician position is a permanent, full-time role within the Department of the Treasury, specifically in the IRS's Small Business Self-Employed (SBSE) division. This position involves overseeing a team of tax examiners, planning and prioritizing work assignments, evaluating performance, and providing guidance on technical and administrative matters. The role requires strong management and leadership skills to ensure the effective execution of tax examination processes and to improve production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and recommend recognition or disciplinary actions.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on technical work and administrative matters.
  • Make decisions on work problems presented by subordinates or customers.
  • Initiate ways to improve production goals or increase the quality of work directed.
  • Develop or participate in setting performance standards.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level within the payband or GS grade in the normal line of progression in the Federal service.
  • Demonstrated management/leadership experience applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts.
  • Experience managing resources, providing support to managers, mentoring team members, and providing day-to-day guidance and training.
  • Experience applying regulations and official guidance to oversee planning and development of technical aspects of programs.
  • Experience applying communication techniques to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project/program management or as a team lead.
  • Knowledge of IRS regulations and procedures.
