About the position

The Supervisory Tax Examining Technician position at the IRS in Austin, TX, is a managerial role responsible for overseeing the Taxpayer Services division. The role involves planning and assigning work to subordinates, evaluating their performance, and providing guidance and training. The successful candidate will also handle employee grievances, conduct interviews for hiring, and implement strategies to improve work processes and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and recommend recognition or disciplinary actions.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production and work processes.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service, demonstrating managerial skills and technical competence.
  • Experience in management/leadership, applying management techniques and principles for program objectives.
  • Experience applying regulations and official guidance relevant to the position.
  • Experience in effective communication with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a government agency or similar organization.
  • Knowledge of IRS policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance.
