About the position

The Front Line Manager position within the Taxpayer Services Division at the IRS involves overseeing and managing a team to ensure effective service delivery. This role includes planning work, assigning tasks, evaluating performance, and providing guidance to employees. The manager will also be responsible for resolving employee complaints, identifying training needs, and implementing improvements in work processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and recommend recognition or disciplinary actions.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer grievances as appropriate.
  • Effect minor disciplinary measures and recommend actions in more serious cases.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees and arrange for necessary training.
  • Initiate improvements in production and work processes.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower level within the payband or GS grade in the Federal service.
  • Management/leadership experience applying management techniques and principles for program objectives.
  • Experience managing resources and providing support to managers and team members.
  • Experience applying regulations and principles to oversee planning and implementation of programs.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project/program management or as a team lead.
  • Technical advisory experience in a managerial capacity.
