About the position

The Supervisory Tax Specialist (Tax Compliance Officer, Group Manager) position at the Department of the Treasury involves overseeing tax compliance operations, managing a team of employees, and ensuring adherence to federal tax laws and regulations. The role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to evaluate employee performance, and the capacity to implement improvements in work processes. This position is critical in maintaining the integrity of tax administration and providing guidance to staff in their duties.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities and the capabilities of employees.
  • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and make recommendations for performance recognition or disciplinary action.
  • Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters.
  • Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
  • Resolve complaints from employees and refer group grievances as appropriate.
  • Initiate ways to improve production, work processes, and increase the quality of work directed.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the Federal service demonstrating managerial skills and technical competence.
  • Experience applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts for program objectives.
  • Experience applying regulations and official guidance related to tax compliance and auditing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business practices, basic accounting principles, and Federal tax laws and regulations.
