About the position

The Supervisory Telephone Operator at the Department of Veterans Affairs will oversee approximately twelve administrative staff members, ensuring efficient operation and staffing of the unit that provides 24/7 services. The role involves maintaining training records, managing personnel issues, and ensuring compliance with operational standards. The incumbent will work closely with the Deputy Chief of Ambulatory Care & Processing to address staffing challenges and maintain communication with various stakeholders regarding telephone services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory guidance for approximately twelve administrative staff members.
  • Keep the Deputy Chief of Ambulatory Care & Processing informed of staffing problems and workload changes.
  • Maintain training records for employees under supervision.
  • Ensure timely and accurate operation of all employees under supervision.
  • Justify FTEEs and initiate recruitment and selection actions to meet unit needs.
  • Review job announcements and interview candidates for positions within the unit.
  • Recommend appointments, promotions, and reassignments to unit positions.
  • Identify and provide necessary training for positions within the unit.
  • Oversee detailed electronic logs of emergency codes announced through intercommunication.
  • Certify employees' leave and assign work responsibilities.
  • Communicate with ancillary services, Congressional offices, and veterans regarding patient inquiries about telephone services.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements for GS-07 position, having served 52 weeks at GS-06 or equivalent.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 level in the normal line of progression for the occupation.
