About the position

The Supervisory Training Instructor position at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy (NMHSA) in Beaver, WV, is responsible for overseeing training instructors who develop and deliver courses related to mine safety and health. This role is crucial in ensuring that federal mine inspectors and safety professionals receive high-quality training. The incumbent will manage a team, set priorities, and enhance training programs to meet the needs of the mining industry and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Directs a staff of varied positions and levels.
  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates and sets short-term priorities.
  • Prepares schedules for completing work and assigns tasks based on priorities and employee capabilities.
  • Identifies developmental and training needs of employees and arranges for necessary training.
  • Conducts research on current trends in mining accidents, technology, and educational methods.
  • Develops policies and guidelines for mine inspector and miner training programs.
  • Advises Academy staff on educational and training aspects of mine safety and health.
  • Plans and develops long-term training for health and safety professionals attending Academy courses.
  • Establishes and maintains professional contacts with stakeholders in the mining community.
  • Represents the Academy at meetings, conferences, and seminars.
  • Collaborates with federal and state agencies and educational institutions in training program development.
  • Serves on the Curriculum Review Committee and ensures training programs meet student needs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least 16 years old.
  • Undergraduate or graduate education in education or a related subject area.
  • Specialized experience in teaching or instructing in adult education programs or related fields.
  • Supervisory experience including planning, scheduling, and assigning work.
  • Experience in training systems, particularly in the mining industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal mine safety and health statutes and MSHA policies.
  • Experience in developing training courses and evaluating training plans.
